John P. Nairn, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained cataract and glaucoma specialist. He is the director of the glaucoma service at AIO where he specializes in the latest and most advanced medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts. Dr. Nairn received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with honors. He received his medical degree, as well as his master’s degree in physiology, from Georgetown University. A native of Western Pennsylvania, Dr. Nairn returned to Pittsburgh for his residency in ophthalmology at St. Francis Medical Center. He completed his fellowship training in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Nairn has been in private practice in the Pittsburgh area for over 20 years. In a profession where experience truly matters, he is at the forefront of glaucoma management and cataract surgery. Dr. Nairn has been an invited principal investigator for cutting-edge clinical trials on the pharmacological and surgical treatment of glaucoma, as well as advancements in cataract surgery and intraocular lenses. He was one of the first surgeons in Pennsylvania to perform laser cataract surgery. Dr. Nairn has authored numerous scientific papers for peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals, and he has lectured extensively throughout the country.
