What You Need to Know About the New PanOptix IOL for Cataract Surgery

September 24, 2019

OCLI is thrilled to announce that the most innovative IOL to date — the PanOptix Trifocal — is now available at OCLI!

Already one of the leading presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) in more than 70 countries, Alcon’s AcrySof IQ PanOptix Trifocal IOL — the first and only trifocal lens for patients undergoing cataract surgery — received approval from the FDA and became available to U.S. patients for the first time in August of 2019.

The PanOptix is produced in both spherical and toric designs and is built on Alcon’s proven AcrySof IQ IOL platform that has been implanted in more than 120 million eyes across the globe.

In a clinical study at 12 U.S. states, PanOptix patients demonstrated exceptional, uninterrupted vision. And more than 99 percent said that they would choose the same lens again.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Cary M. Silverman, has already performed eight eye surgeries using PanOptix, and our patients have been incredibly pleased with their results.

PanOptix is truly a game-changer when it comes to helping those suffering from cataracts to restore their vision — and even make it better than ever.

Because this new lens has the potential to make such a significant impact on our patients’ quality of life, we wanted to provide our readers with a better understanding of this premium IOL.

Here are a few things you need to know about PanOptix.

Exceptional Vision at All Distances

The PanOptix IOL uses Alcon’s ENLIGHTEN Optical Technology, a proprietary design that optimizes intermediate vision without compromising near and distance vision. This means that, with the PanOptix IOL, 20/20 near, intermediate, and distance vision are now possible.

Reducing the Need for Glasses

The goal of standard cataract surgery is to improve patients corrected vision. This means that these patients will generally be reliant on glasses to see clearly up close and possibly at a distance if they have astigmatism.

With PanOptix now offering patients the ability to see clearly at all distances, this greatly reduces the need for prescriptive eyewear following cataract surgery.

Made for Today’s Active Lifestyles

The center zone of the PanOptix IOL is diffractive, and the light energy is distributed to the intermediate distance, providing three focal points with a light distribution of 50 percent for distance, 25 percent for intermediate, and 25 percent for near, regardless of pupil sizes up to 4.5 mm.

With optimum visibility in all lighting conditions, as well as reliable ultraviolet and blue light filters, the PanOptix IOL allows for flexible transitioning in all day-to-day functions and activities.

So, from high-quality distance vision in a range of lighting conditions to viewing computer screens and mobile devices, the PanOptix IOL is designed to perfectly meet the vision needs of today’s active and digitally-connected lifestyles.

If you’re suffering from cataracts and frustrated with the quality of vision you’re living with as a result of this condition, the PanOptix IOL is likely the ideal solution for helping you achieve exceptionally clear vision.
