Corrective Cataract Surgery Means Never Settling for So-So

October 5, 2015

Choosing to get surgery is not a decision anyone makes lightly. Before they come to us, our patients have done their due diligence—they’ve scoured industry resources, talked to many doctors, held consultations, budgeted their costs, and then come to the very best name in the business of cataract removal procedures, Dr. Cary M. Silverman.

At OCLI, our reputation is our most valued asset—because we’ve earned it with the most qualified doctors, the most cutting-edge technology, and the best aftercare. Our patients know they can trust us to deliver better than adequate outcomes.

One way we ensure this is that we perform cataract removal with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed surgeries, and we make it even easier. We pair new IOL technology with modern microsurgical procedures and smart biometrics to help our clients reclaim excellent vision. IOLs are totally personalized to your particular vision needs; from how likely it is that you’ll need to wear eyeglasses to working with astigmatism, there’s a way to make it work for you.

PC had cataract surgery and a Toric IOL procedure done by Dr. Silverman.

“I had difficultly seeing in my right eye,” he said. “Now I have 20/20 vision in my right eye, and obviously I see a whole heck of a lot better without glasses. I can’t wait to get surgery on my left eye.”

HD Cataract surgery utilizes the Catalys or LenSx Femtosecond lasers to produce the tiniest incisions necessary to remove the cataract causing blurred vision; pairing this with an implanted intraocular lens means that many of our patients don’t even need glasses after visiting OCLI for their cataract removal! Not all ophthalmologists utilize this technique, but we only use the best methods on our patients.

MB is a patient of Dr. Silverman’s who had cataract surgery at age 92. “My vision was hardly any vision,” he said. When asked about his vision after the procedure, Mr. Burstyn said, “Right now it’s just like a miracle. It’s wonderful. I can see things I never even knew existed. I’ve even been able to drive during the day. I think you have a magic wand.”

Still, even when you bring together the best staff and the most current technology, there are a biological factors that can lead to unsatisfactory results after cataract removal. We recognize that no one goes into the operating room to leave with mediocre outcomes, so we’re well versed in ways to utilize several secondary procedures to correct vision and leave our patients happy and healthy.

Some of these methods include:
• LASIK: a noninvasive and very accurate way to correct lingering vision impairments after cataract removal that achieves the wanted results about 92 percent of the time
• Piggyback IOLs: used to correct residual refractive errors after cataract removal by implanting two IOLs in the back of the same eye. This requires a lot of knowledge of why the eye is having problems—luckily, our doctors are extremely experienced in the field. This is also a reversible procedure.
• Intraocular lens exchange: the preferred technique to correct lingering refractive errors in patients with IOL implantions. It can be done very quickly after the first procedure, which makes it desirable to many.

Dr. Silverman and his staff have improved the vision of countless people in New Jersey and the surrounding area, and you can easily be next! Take our cataract evaluation test today to start your journey towards a brighter, clearer future.
