Best Spring Bike Trails In New Jersey

May 12, 2017

May is National Bike Month, and the National Bike to Work week will be held May 15-19. If you’re an avid bicyclist, then perhaps you already bike to work, or hit the trails on the weekend. But even if you haven’t been on a bike in years, this month is the perfect time to dust off your wheels and get out on the trails. Spring weather can be a little unpredictable, but we’ll have some of the best days for biking this spring.

So check out any of these great New Jersey bike trails during National Bike Month.

Henry Hudson Trail

It’s a popular trail for many New Jersey cyclists, and for good reason. Sometimes shady, other times passing open fields, the trail offers a variety of landscapes and wildlife to look for as you pass.

Cape May Shoreline

This 46.4-mile loop will bring you past some beautiful beaches, wetlands, and boardwalks. You’ll also pass by charming Victorian homes and barrier island communities on your scenic ride.

Ringwood State Park

You’ll need to bust out the mountain bike for this 20-mile network of trails in Bergen and Passaic Counties. The tough terrain is worth it in the end though, as you’ll pass through country that’s as beautiful as it is rugged.

Paulinskill Valley

Another favorite for mountain bikers, Paulinskill Valley Trail runs 27 miles through Sussex and Warren Counties. Although you will need a mountain bike, the trail itself is relatively straight and flat, and is also frequented by horseback riders, hikers, and cross country skiers in the winter.

Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail

The D&R Canal trail follows the old canal built between Philadelphia and New York, and this wonderful trail has plenty to see along the way. Cobblestone spillways, 19th century bridges, and old locks will transport you back in time during your ride.

Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway

It’s only 5.2 miles, but that’s perfect for anyone who may be just getting back in their groove. It’s also got plenty of scenery and history along the way—enough to turn this short ride into a sightseeing day trip.

Pleasantville to Somers Point Bike Path

This community trail ties together four different cities, and it meanders through parks, residential neighborhoods, and playing fields, with a few wooded areas along the way. It’s only 6.5 miles, but it provides access to several different communities and all they have to offer.

Sandy Hook Multi-Use Path

This 8.5-mile trail spans the length of the Sandy Hook peninsula and offers both gorgeous ocean views and shady forest stretches for cyclists, walkers, and runners alike. There are also several beach access points where you’ll find restrooms, parking, and food.

The warm spring weather hasn’t quite turned into the heat of summer, so take the opportunity to get out and stretch your legs on one of these beautiful New Jersey bike paths. And for once, don’t worry about your glasses or contacts on the trail. Instead, call OCLI today and we’ll schedule you a consultation to talk about your options for LASIK eye surgery.
