The Long Island cosmetic and reconstructive team of OCLI perform a variety of rejuvenation treatments for the eyes and face including BOTOX, Dermal Fillers, laser skin resurfacing, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and mid face lifts.

The cosmetic and reconstructive eye & facial plastic surgery team at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island specialize in treating and correcting many conditions that affect the aesthetics and function of the eyes, eyelids, orbital region, and face. Some of these conditions develop as a result of a medical condition, injury, or even the normal aging process. Many of the conditions that affect the eyes or eyelids can be improved with surgical and non-surgical procedures.
Read on to learn more about the cosmetic and reconstructive procedures performed at OCLI.
Orbital Floor Fractures
The eye socket is a bony cup area that protects the eye. The rim of the socket is comprised of thick bones, while the orbital floor is comprised of thinner bones. An orbital floor fracture can occur when a force or blunt object strikes the face or head and causes the paper thin eye socket floor to crack or rupture. This can cause a small hole to form in the floor of the eye socket, trapping parts of the eye muscles. A person with an orbital floor fracture may be unable to move their eye or eyes normally and may experience double vision.
Severe orbital floor fractures require plastic and reconstructive surgery. Surgery involves removing bone fragments, freeing trapped eye muscles to eliminate double vision, restoring the normal architecture of the eye socket, and repair any deformities of the eye socket that affect its appearance.
Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR)
DCR is performed to overcome blockage of the nasolacrimal duct- a boney canal that drains tears from the cornea of the eye into the nose and down the throat. A blockage of the nasolacrimal duct results in excessively watery and runny eyes.
For the DCR procedure, a surgeon makes a small incision midway between the corner of the eye and the bridge of the nose. The surgeon then locates the nasolacrimal duct and reconnects it to the mucus membranes in the nose for a new tear drainage pathway. Finally, tiny plastic tubes (stents) are placed in the new drainage pathway to prevent scarring. The tubes are removed after a few months.
